We will continue to update our website accordingly.  Our physical location will be closed during this time, opening at a time TBD.  We will continue to closely monitor information as it unfolds and follow the recommendations of medical experts and government organizations as they are put in place.

If you are a current patient, please log in to your patient portal for important information or contact our office at 704-997-5154, and someone will return your call as soon as possible. Please note:  all returned calls will come from a blocked number.

Dr. Konzer will complete an initial assessment to help establish a comprehensive treatment plan.  It is possible that therapy and/or medication may be recommended.  Dr. Konzer is able to prescribe your medications and will provide some brief therapy at each appointment.  More extensive therapy may be offered on a case-by-case basis, or you may be referred to a therapist outside of the practice if you do not already have one established.  Below is a brief summary of these components of your treatment plan.

Psychotherapy is not easily described in general statements. It varies depending on the personality of both the provider and the patient, along with the specific problems or symptoms the patient may be experiencing. There are multiple approaches that can be utilized to address patient concerns. It requires a very active effort on the part of the patient. In order to be most successful, the patient will have to work both during sessions and at home. Psychotherapy has benefits and risks. Risks can include experiencing uncomfortable levels of feelings of sadness, guilt, anxiety, anger, frustration, loneliness, and helplessness. Psychotherapy often requires recalling unpleasant aspects of a patient’s life. Psychotherapy has been shown to have benefits for people who chose to pursue it and participate. It often leads to a significant reduction in feelings of distress, better relationships, and resolutions of specific problems or patterns of behavior. But there are no guarantees about what will happen or how therapy will proceed.

Psychopharmacology (medication management) – Medication is prescribed when appropriate based on the cluster of the most predominant symptoms. The goal is to reduce and, if possible, control the symptoms that have brought you to the office. At the time of initiating treatment, side effects will be reviewed as well as possible treatment alternatives. We will review risks and benefits, and a written set of potential side effects can be available upon request (in addition to those provided by your pharmacy). If you are struggling with side effects, it is your responsibility to contact Dr. Konzer to discuss them. During the beginning stages of medication trials, it is important to meet more frequently to address the side effects and determine alternatives as needed. Please be aware that although medication may help, its benefits are most often enhanced when combined with psychotherapy. Please recognize that medication trials are not 100% successful and that some medications may take time to show their full benefits while others may show a more rapid response.
